But if you’re not comfortable fighting Fafnir, you can also steal x4 Light Curtains from Ironclad, flee, and then repeat. Fafnir is unlocked after capturing four of each Drake-type enemy on Spira. There are five fiends in total, but remember you need x4 copies of each:
Kusariqqu (on the Thunder Plains) Lamashtu (on Mushroom Rock Road) Mushussu (on Bikanel Island) Nidhogg (in the Cavern of Stolen Fayth) Vouivre (on the Mi’ihen Highroad)
Ironclad is unlocked after capturing ten Iron Giants & ten of both types of Gemini fiends. Iron Giants can be captured on the Thunder Plains, and the Gemini fiends can be found in the Final Dungeon. You also get a one-time gift of x99 Light Curtains for unlocking Juggernaut at the Monster Arena, so this can be another option to get them quickly. Juggernaut is unlocked after capturing five of each Ruminant-type enemy (listed below):
Dual Horn (on the Mi’ihen Highroad) Grendel (on Mt. Gagazet) Valaha (in the Cavern of Stolen Fayth)
What Are Light Curtains Used For?
When you apply a Light Curtain with the “Use” command, it will cast Protect on one ally. But more importantly, Light Curtains can be used to customize Auto-Protect onto a piece of armor, which is one of the most important auto-abilities in the game – and vital for any ultimate armor build. These items can also be used to customize SOS Protect, if you really want it. And even your Aeons can get in on the action and learn Protect using Light Curtains.
Auto-Protect requires 70 Light Curtains to customize SOS Protect requires 8 Light Curtains to customize Protect (Aeon) requires 6 Light Curtains
Light Curtains are also a prime material for Rikku’s Mix command. Let’s see a few combinations that stand out the most: Super Mighty G (Speed Sphere + Light Curtain): Casts Shell, Protect, Haste, and Regen on the whole party. Ultra-Null-All (Healing Spring + Light Curtain): Applies Cheer, Focus, Aim, Reflex, NulBlaze, NulShock, NulTide and NulFrost to the party. Hyper Mighty G (Amulet + Light Curtain): Applies Shell, Protect, Haste, Regen, and Auto-Life to the whole party.
Are Light Curtains Worth The Farm?
Yes, and there’s no question about it. Auto-Protect alone is the biggest reason. It’s a Protect buff that’s applied automatically and cannot be dispelled. That means that with Auto-Protect on a piece of armor, (almost) all physical attacks will do half damage. That’s too good to pass up. And Light Curtains are one of the easier items to get, too. But putting Auto-Protect aside, having some Light Curtains in your inventory is always handy. They’re just one of those items that you should have at least a few dozen of, because why not?
