This is only a 4 day limited time event, so jump on it now to earn all the rewards (although hopefully it will be returning and staying in some form down the line).
Having trouble getting the limited time dueling mode to start or just can’t quite manage to win all 8 matches? We’ve got you covered with a full guide on how to beat every other student in duelling class!
Hogwarts Mystery Duelling Class Multiplayer Guide
There have been a couple of glitches as the multiplayer dueling club finally opens in the Dungeons area of Hogwarts.
First and foremost, you have to leave the room and then return again in order to actually get started duelling.
After Dumbledore gives his speech, the dueling icon doesn’t appear as it is supposed to, so just tap the door icon to return into the Dungeons hallway, then scroll over to the far right side and re-enter the dueling room. Tap the crossed wands to get started and find a match.
If this icon doesn’t appear, leave the room and then come back
8 wins required to get the gold coin and outfit rewards, but your student only starts with 3 tickets. Your ticket count only drops if you lose a match however, so don’t lose 3 matches or you are officially out of the event.
Here’s where the other big glitch comes in – if you lose your connection during the match, it counts as a loss and the ticket is gone!
At this point its unclear if tickets will refresh each day of the limited time even or not, as the developer hasn’t specifically stated. If you lost all three check back tomorrow morning, as they may regenerate over time.
In addition to the main rewards, bonus energy is awarded when you win a duel, and energy can now go above your normal maximum level (which wasn’t the case when the game launched).
Hogwarts Mystery Duelling Strategy
Your student’s stats cross over into the limited time duel mode, so there’s incentive to go back and play the single player classes for upgrades if you keep losing duels.
Spells and potions are locked until you actually get them in the single player game, so for instance if you haven’t mastered Incendio yet it won’t be available in multiplayer. You do still have to trace the spells as normal, but there’s no penalty at the moment for messing it up.
The rock, paper, scissors mechanic continues to be used as you pick a wand stance, so take what you know about the AI’s chances of selecting the sneaky, defensive, and aggressive stances and apply that to multiplayer. You are facing off against bots, not the actual players themselves, so they follow the same patterns as opponents in the single player game.
For example, when low on stamina, the AI almost always chooses to heal with Wiggenwald, so you can counter that stance and prevent them from getting a turn.
On your turn, Wiggenwald can be your best friend if you go with the defensive stance, since it means you effectively negate the opponent’s attacks if you lose the stance selection in the next couple of rounds.
After healing is taken care of, something that does damage and stuns at the same time like Expelliarmus can absolutely wreak havoc on the opponents. Stunning is easily the strongest mechanic to take advantage of, followed by high damage with a spell like Flipendo.
With this strategy you’ll be earning all the rewards in no time!
Hogwarts Mystery Duelling Cheat
Update: this cheat appears to have been patched out, so use the above method instead, or check the comments below for a cheat by turning off wi-fi.
There’s a Hogwarts Mystery duelling cheat you can try out if you get frustrated with the rock, paper, scissor mechanic and keep losing the stance selection – just pick aggressive every single time, and always use Expellariarmus.
Due to the algorithms in the game’s AI, you will win the throw often enough and stun often enough that you can coast through most battles. Only change your stance and go for defensive if its the end of the match and you are clearly one attack away from losing.
You might be quite low on stamina by the end, and it can take awhile if they choose defensive and heal, but you will almost always win every match anyway. Take advantage of this now, before the developers figure it out and nerf the throw mechanics!
Expelliarmus is your friend!
